Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette

(Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette from Sephora US, $42)

With an endless assortment of warm, earthy tones – that can probably last me a lifetime thanks to the Morphe 35O – in the market, it’s difficult to find a good, versatile eyeshadow palette that offers a selection of berry tones. I’ve had my eyes on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette for a year after seeing everybody rave about it on YouTube – where else? – so I had my cousin get this for me in Sephora US last summer. I’ve been obsessing over pink looks lately, it’s just so flattering for morenas!

Worth the Splurge!

The palette boasts 14 shades which include both warm and cool tones inspired by Renaissance colors. There’s an abundance of transitional matte shades (Raw Sienna, Golden Ochre, Warm Taupe) considering most palettes, even high-end, only carry a single shadow. The iridescent shimmer shadows (Vermeer, Primavera) can even double as a highlighter! This lasts me the entire day even without applying an eyeshadow primer beforehand. It has a double-ended shadow brush but I still use my F&S fluffy shadow brush for blending. The berry shades (Buon Fresco, Love Letter, Venetian Red) are so unique and enchanting! There’s a myriad of looks to do with this!

Being the OC Queen that I am, I just dislike how the shadows get marks easily even after a few uses because of the “soft” formula. I also keep the palette inside the box because of the lavender felt packaging that gets dirty easily. Other than that, it’s worth the splurge! I love, love it but I honestly won’t recommend it to beginners because the colors are superiorly pigmented – with or without a spray of the MAC Fix Plus – that if you don’t use a light hand, it will look messy. I still prefer an all matte palette like the Stila Eyes Are The Window in Mind for newbies.
